Prophets of Rage and its inaugural self-titled album has cracked the Top 20 of the Billboard 200 albums chart to debut at #16 for the week ending September 21. Comprised of Public Enemy’s Chuck D and DJ Lord, Cypress Hill’s B-Real, and Rage Against The Machine’s Tom Morello, Tim Commerford and Brad Wilk, the fairly new supergroup appears to be off to a solid start.
On the flip side, Kevin Gates’ latest project, By Any Means 2, hobbled in at #100 for its first appearance on the chart, while The Cool Kids’ comeback album, Special Edition Grandmaster Deluxe, didn’t make the cut at all.
Elsewhere, Lil Uzi Vert’s Luv Is Rage 2 hangs on to a Top 5 placement and lands at #2 this week, while XXXTENTACION’s 17 maintains its Top 5 position as well and settles in at #5.
The Rage Is Strong
Prophets of Rage formed in 2016 and has made it their mission to be unapologetically brash in their stance on politics and others social issues plaguing the United States.
At #16, their self-titled album pulled in 21,637 total album equivalent units (20,141 pure album sales and a streaming count of just 1,390,941). Songs like “Living On The 110” and “Unfuck The World” have the ability to satisfy both hard rock and Hip Hop fans.
By Any Means 2 Hits Early
Although Kevin Gates’ debut studio album, 2016’s Islah, entered the Billboard 200 at #2 and was eventually certified platinum by the RIAA, his latest effort, By Any Means 2, has failed to match those numbers. But it could be due to the fact that the record was actually released late on September 21, ahead of its scheduled September 22 release date, and that those truncated numbers factored into the album’s low ranking. It’s possible his placement could drastically change on the next chart, once a full week of sales are factored in.
Debuting at #100, the album pulled in 7,005 total album equivalent units (3,021 pure album sales and a streaming count of 5,251,374). By Any Means 2 marks his first project since Murder For Hire 2, which the currently incarcerated Baton Rouge rapper dropped in May 2016.
Islah is currently at #148 after 86 weeks on the chart.
Lil Uzi Vert Hangs Tough
Lil Uzi Vert continues to pull numbers with his latest album, Luv Is Rage 2, and takes a slight leap from #4 to the #2 spot.
With 49,787 total album equivalent units sold (1,356 pure album sales and a chart-topping streaming count of 69,971,258), it was enough to give him a solid lead over Kendrick Lamar’s DAMN., which clocks in at #4 this week.
