New York, NY – Veteran Hip Hop journalist Rob Markman is evidently trading his pen for a mic with the upcoming release of his debut EP, Write To Dream. Markman, who said he’s rapped since the age of 12, made the reveal during an interview on Sway In The Morning early Thursday (July 13).
“I’m dropping my debut project as an artist, Write To Dream,” Markman said. “Coming out July 28. I want it all, baby … Hip Hop has always been a passion of mine. When I grew up, I thought I was going to be an artist before I was a journalist. I never aspired to be a journalist ’cause I didn’t even know it was possible.”
Referred to as the G.O.A.T. of journalism by Sway, Markman has penned stories for Complex, The Source, XXL, Vibe, Scratch and a number of other publications. He also served as senior editor at MTV News and is currently in charge of Artist Relations at Genius.
Markman also shared the news via Instagram, writing: “Today was a dream in real life. I wrote my first rhyme when I was 12. And today I sat with the FAMILY at Sway in the Morning and announced the release of my debut EP #WriteToDream. A lot of people thought I’d never do it, but we all have a right to dream. See y’all on July 28.”
Of course, the veteran journo’s appearance on Sway In The Morning didn’t conclude without a freestyle. Check it out below and pre-order the project here.
